Sub Committees on The Smoke-free Premises etc. (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2012

Response from Ruth jones

Dear Vaughan,

As a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, I am writing to express concern that the Welsh Government might make an exemption to Wales’ smoke-free legislation for film and television.

Physiotherapists work with people who have chest problems brought about due to smoking and as a profession we support keeping, in full with no exemptions, the ban on smoking in public places, in full with no exemptions.

I would like to ask you, as the chair of the Health and Social Care committee, to voice my concerns to the Minister for Health and Social Services and the First Minister, and to vote against any proposals brought forward to weaken the current legislation in this way.

The law was introduced on health grounds and the health and wellbeing of those working in film and TV must continue to be protected.

Please help to ‘Keep the Ban’ in full on smoking in public places.

I look forward to your response.

Kind regards

Ruth Jones
